AI Hype vs AI Reality: Live Demonstration

🎤 On stage: Suhrid Shah, Founder & CEO, with Karnik Dhabe, Assoc. Director – Product, MavenVista Technologies

AI gets attention when it promises to replace people. It earns trust when it helps people make a difficult decision better.

That distinction shaped one of the most thought-provoking conversations at the 18th Edition of Procurement Excellence Summit & Awards 2026, held on 8 July 2026 at The Westin Gurgaon, New Delhi.

The subject was AI. The real conversation was judgment: how procurement can use intelligence without losing context, control or accountability.

The room recognised the problem before it saw the technology

Procurement leaders in the room did not need a definition of complexity. They live it — in urgent requirements, imperfect data, supplier dependencies, technical constraints, policy exceptions and commercial trade-offs.

So when Suhrid challenged the promise of fully autonomous, human-less procurement, the argument landed immediately.

“The lowest-priced supplier is not always the right supplier.” The decision reality that reframed the conversation

A credible buying decision may need to balance price, quality, capacity, delivery urgency, historical performance, negotiation context, compliance and risk — often at the same time. That was the tension delegates recognised: AI can process more, but procurement still has to judge what matters now.

The response was not fascination with AI for its own sake. It was recognition. The room had seen automation make processes faster; this conversation asked whether it could make decisions better.

Four moments that changed the energy in the room

1The autonomy myth was replaced by a more useful ambition.

The goal is not to remove the buyer. It is to remove the avoidable effort around the buyer — searching, compiling, checking, drafting and chasing — so human attention returns to negotiation, supplier development and strategic decisions.

2AI moved from a separate interface to the point of decision.

With Karnik alongside Suhrid, the presentation connected the argument to a live procurement workflow. Intelligence appeared where work happens — from negotiation and vendor comparison to justification, approval, audit and control — not in a disconnected chatbot.

3Individual buying intelligence became enterprise control.

Genie 360 showed how historical patterns, price benchmarks, supplier competitiveness and risk can strengthen one buying decision. Genie Control Tower widened the lens to savings leakage, non-compliant decisions, emerging risk and the transactions where leadership intervention matters most.

4Explainability became the trust test.

The question was no longer, “Can AI recommend?” It became, “Can it show the rationale, respect business rules, preserve an audit trail and keep a human accountable?” That is where delegates’ interest shifted from AI spectacle to enterprise value.

Nine focused jobs. One connected decision layer.

The VENDX Genie ecosystem was introduced once, in the language that mattered most: the job each capability gives back to procurement.

  • Genie 360 — Choose with context, not instinct; strengthens the buying decision.
  • Genie Control Tower — See leakage before it becomes loss; directs management attention.
  • Genie Analytics — Ask the data, skip the dashboard queue; turns questions into decision-ready views.
  • Genie Insights — Enter negotiations with memory; surfaces rates, patterns, supplier behaviour and BATNA.
  • Genie Transcribe — Turn conversations into accountability; captures decisions, commitments and next actions.
  • Genie Articulate — Turn rationale into approval-ready language; helps buyers explain decisions clearly.
  • Genie Match — Catch mismatches before they become disputes; validates invoice, PO and GRN data.
  • Auto RFQ — Let repeat demand trigger the process; removes avoidable RFQ effort.
  • Auto Negotiation — Let vendors improve before buyers step in; creates structured competitive pressure.

Not nine disconnected tools. One procurement context — carrying intelligence across the workflow while keeping material decisions visible and human-owned.

The booth became the second stage

The presentation created the question. The MavenVista booth let delegates test the answer.

Through an immersive 42-inch touchscreen experience, delegates moved from watching VENDX Genie to interacting with it directly. They explored live procurement use cases, navigated the workflow and saw how Genie responded where a buyer or procurement leader would actually need support.

That hands-on moment mattered. It removed the distance between a stage claim and an operating reality. What interested the audience was not another AI label; it was intelligence that could explain, act within rules and remain connected to the transaction.

What stayed with the delegates

  • AI should make procurement context visible — not pretend ambiguity does not exist.
  • Automation should return time to strategic work — not dilute accountability.
  • A recommendation becomes enterprise-ready only when its rationale can be reviewed, governed and audited.
  • The winning model is not human versus AI. It is human intelligence amplified by AI.
“The future of procurement is not autonomous procurement. It is intelligent procurement.” The VENDX Perspective

Recognition followed experience

Later at the same summit, MavenVista Technologies was recognised with the Best AI-Powered Procurement Intelligence Platform award.

The honour was more than a product accolade. It validated a direction built over 25+ years of procurement depth: start with the business decision, embed intelligence in the workflow, make the recommendation explainable and measure value through savings, compliance, risk, productivity and decision quality.

The delegates had already experienced that direction — first as an argument, then as a live workflow, and finally through direct interaction with VENDX Genie at the booth. The recognition gave the day its clearest external proof point.

We were not recognised for making procurement more automatic.
We were recognised for making procurement decisions more intelligent, explainable and actionable.

That is the game-changing shift: less repetitive effort, stronger human judgment and better control at every decision that matters.

AI does not fail because of AI.

It fails because of the wrong approach.

See the approach that works.
